# OpenCapital full guide for AI agents > OpenCapital helps people and AI assistants understand U.S. public companies through earnings, financial metrics, business segments, charts, and SEC filings, with sources and derivations they can check. Explore company financial performance, follow earnings, and compare businesses. Public company research is available without a subscription or advertising. SEC EDGAR remains the official filing record. ## Company and fundamental data - Company page (https://www.opencapital.sh/stocks/{ticker}): business profile, market-cap history, key metrics, statements, ratios, segments, competitors, and recent earnings. The primary figures are server-rendered. - Statement pages (https://www.opencapital.sh/stocks/{ticker}/metrics/income-statement | balance-sheet | cash-flow): every reported metric on that statement with latest value, YoY change, and links to each metric's own page. - Metric page (https://www.opencapital.sh/stocks/{ticker}/metrics/{metricId}): quarterly, annual, TTM, and selected daily history for one company and metric. Pages include definitions, peer comparisons, segment context, chart export, and provenance for reported or derived values. This is the canonical citation target for a specific number. - Segment pages (https://www.opencapital.sh/stocks/{ticker}/metrics/segments and /segment/{dimension}): revenue and profit split by business line, product, or region over time. - Segment-level series cover business, product, customer, market, and geographic disclosures where the company reports them. Most data providers do not expose these series. - Stock screener (https://www.opencapital.sh/stocks): filter companies by identity, fundamentals, growth, margins, valuation, balance-sheet strength, price performance, and earnings fields. Sort, filter, and column state is shareable through the URL. - Metric screener (https://www.opencapital.sh/metrics): search metrics across companies. Lexical search is public, and signed-in users can enable semantic search. Prices and market capitalizations are end-of-day values. OpenCapital does not publish investment ratings or recommendations. ## Earnings - Earnings calendar (https://www.opencapital.sh/earnings): week and month views with expected EPS, expected revenue, and before-market or after-market timing when known. - Earnings page (https://www.opencapital.sh/stocks/{ticker}/earnings/{period}): reported revenue and EPS against consensus, management commentary, release tables, filing links, and the matching periodic report when available. - Earnings Markdown: append .md to an earnings page URL to receive results, estimates, source links, and the full reconstructed press release. ## Charts - Product guide: https://www.opencapital.sh/products/charts - Composer: https://www.opencapital.sh/charts/compose - The composer supports multiple companies and metrics, quarterly, annual, and TTM periods, overlay, facet, and indexed layouts, calendar or fiscal alignment, YoY-growth companion series, per-series chart controls, a historical values table, image export, and signed share links. - Shared chart links open read-only for logged-out recipients and carry a query-specific preview image. ## Public filing search and readers - Filing search (https://www.opencapital.sh/filings) accepts companies, accession numbers, and CIKs. Filters cover filing families, SEC items and named sections, filed dates, primary documents or exhibits, tables, linked metrics, and the complete stock-screener company vocabulary. - Full-text results show the best matching passage and open the exact evidence in the filing reader. Search and filter state remains in the URL. - Filing readers (https://www.opencapital.sh/filings/{accessionNumber}) present filing metadata, the primary document, reconstructed HTML exhibits, deterministic anchors, a table of contents, accession-scoped search, source links, and reader settings. - Exact inline XBRL values act as research links. Selecting one opens its metric history and filing context while the source text remains visible. - Confirmed earnings 8-K readers link to the matching earnings overview and reconstructed release exhibits. - Every reconstructed accession has an agent-readable Markdown alternate at https://www.opencapital.sh/filings/{accessionNumber}.md. It contains filing metadata, the SEC filing index, a document manifest, SEC document links, and the canonical Markdown for every reconstructed document. - The HTML filing page declares its Markdown twin with a typed alternate link. The Markdown response links back to the canonical HTML page. The sitemap uses a conservative filing subset: two recent years of 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and confirmed earnings 8-Ks for the 100 largest companies. Use the filing search for the complete catalog. ## MCP server The hosted MCP server gives AI clients direct access to the research index. - Endpoint (Streamable HTTP): https://api.opencapital.sh/mcp - Authentication: OAuth through Google or email OTP. No API key is required. - Free access supports casual use. Pro removes the usage cap. - Tools: stock_screener, stock_screener_filter_values, metric_screener, metric_screener_filter_values, metric_detail, metric_time_series, peer_time_series, segment_time_series, business_overview, business_competitors, filing_text_search, build_chart, get_watchlist, and update_watchlist. - filing_text_search uses BM25 text retrieval across 10-Ks, 10-Qs, S-1s, and every 8-K. Results include source passages, EDGAR links, and linked metric IDs when available. - build_chart returns a rendered PNG and a composer link for the same editable chart. - update_watchlist is the only write tool. It changes the signed-in user's OpenCapital watchlist. The other tools are read-only. - Tool catalog and live demos: https://www.opencapital.sh/products/ai-tools - Setup guides: https://www.opencapital.sh/connect-ai/claude, https://www.opencapital.sh/connect-ai/hermes, https://www.opencapital.sh/connect-ai/openclaw, https://www.opencapital.sh/connect-ai/claude-code, https://www.opencapital.sh/connect-ai/chatgpt, https://www.opencapital.sh/connect-ai/cursor, https://www.opencapital.sh/connect-ai/other ## Accounts and plans - Public filing, company, metric, screener, chart, and earnings pages remain available without a paid plan. - A free account adds the MCP connection, semantic metric search, chart editing, a 10-company watchlist, and earnings-posted emails for watched companies. - Pro costs $39 monthly or $348 annually. It adds unmetered MCP use and an unlimited watchlist. - OpenCapital has no brokerage connection and cannot place trades. ## Methodology and sourcing OpenCapital extracts and standardizes data from company SEC filings. Reported values retain the filing and XBRL source, while computed metrics show their derivation. Fiscal calendars, restatements, source selection, and known limitations are documented at https://www.opencapital.sh/methodology. ## Citation and reuse For a filing passage, cite the canonical accession URL or its deterministic passage link. For a financial value, cite the canonical metric page, such as https://www.opencapital.sh/stocks/aapl/metrics/total_revenue. OpenCapital permits links, quotations, screenshots, and embeds without a permission request. Full policy: https://www.opencapital.sh/cite. Tickers in URLs are lowercase. Alphabet uses GOOG as the canonical company route and covers both public share classes. ## Index - Sitemap: https://www.opencapital.sh/sitemap.xml - Short version of this file: https://www.opencapital.sh/llms.txt - Filing search: https://www.opencapital.sh/filings - Product guides: https://www.opencapital.sh/products - MCP connection hub: https://www.opencapital.sh/connect-ai - Changelog: https://www.opencapital.sh/releases - About: https://www.opencapital.sh/about
