Cookie Policy

Last updated: May 27, 2026

1. The short version

OpenCapital does not set any cookies for anonymous visitors. You can browse every public page on the site — company profiles, metric pages, earnings, segments — without anything being stored on your device. We do not show a cookie consent banner because we do not have anything to ask consent for.

The only time cookies are set is after you sign in. Those cookies keep you logged in and let us track product analytics tied to your account so we can improve the product.

2. Anonymous visitors

No cookies are set, no analytics scripts run, and no third-party tracking is loaded. Standard web server logs (IP address, requested URL, timestamp) are kept briefly by our hosting provider for security and abuse prevention, but nothing is written to your browser.

3. After you sign in

Once you sign in, two things start happening:

Authentication session cookie

Purpose: Keeps you logged in so you don't have to sign in again on every page

Duration: Until you sign out or the session expires

Essential: Yes — without it, signed-in features cannot work

PostHog (product analytics)

Purpose: Tracks how signed-in users navigate the product so we can prioritize improvements. Tied to your account.

Activated: Only after you sign in. Anonymous visitors are not tracked by PostHog.

Provider: PostHog Inc. (USA)

4. What we do not use

  • No advertising cookies, no ad networks, no retargeting
  • No third-party tracking pixels
  • No cross-site tracking or fingerprinting
  • No Google Analytics
  • No cookie consent banner — because anonymous browsing does not set any cookies, there is nothing to consent to

5. Managing cookies in your browser

Browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies. Blocking the authentication cookie will sign you out and prevent signed-in features from working, but it will not affect the anonymous browsing experience.

6. Updates to this policy

If we change what runs in your browser, this page is the source of truth and will be updated with the new behavior and an updated date at the top.
